Grandma of 7-year-old girl killed during Detroit police raid testifies: Police 'came to kill'

DETROIT — Beneath a multi-colored quilt of Disney cartoon characters, 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones lay peacefully on the living room couch of her grandmother’s first-floor flat on Detroit’s east side.

Mertilla Jones lay at the other end, having recently put the girl to sleep.

Within seconds — maybe as few as three — a stun grenade smashed through a window, exploding over the couch. Armed, black-clad and masked police officers swarmed into the living room and, moments later, Aiyana lay bleeding to death with a gunshot wound to her head.

“As soon as they came in, their guns were just pointing right there, and he pulled the trigger,” Aiyana’s grandmother, Mertilla Jones said Monday of Joseph Weekley during the Detroit police officer’s involuntary manslaughter trial in Wayne County Circuit Court.

“I seen the light leave out of her eyes and the blood started gushing out her mouth and she was dead,” testified the 50-year-old Jones, who then broke into tears.

For members of the Detroit police special response team, the May 2010 nighttime raid on the two-family flat on Lillibridge was one of hundreds they had taken part in as a unit. This time they were being shadowed by a crew from the reality TV show, “The First 48.”

Armed with an MP5 submachine gun and behind a shield, team veteran Weekley was selected as point man for the operation — tasked with being first into the home in search of murder suspect, Chauncey Owens.

Dick Cheney to compete in 1 Shot Antelope Hunt

LANDER, Wyo.—Dick Cheney will be shooting for Wyoming in this year's One Shot Antelope Hunt.

Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead told KOVE-AM ( http://bit.ly/ZWmcOH) Friday that the former vice president will join him in the Sept. 21 hunt in Lander. It will be the first time Cheney has participated in the event, co-hosted by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.

The event started in 1940 as a duel between Wyoming and Colorado and governors traditionally lead their state teams. It's since grown into a premier event that attracts hunters from all over.

Members of each three-person hunting team are allowed one shot to kill an antelope. The team that kills the most antelope in the shortest time wins.

The third Wyoming team member isn't expected to be announced until August.

David Icke - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Vaughan Icke (/aɪk/; ike, born 29 April 1952) is an English writer, public speaker and former professional footballer, perhaps best known for his views on what he calls "who and what is really controlling the world." Describing himself as the most controversial speaker in the world, he is the author of 19 books and has attracted a global following that cuts across the political spectrum. His 533-page The Biggest Secret (1999) has been called "the Rosetta Stone for conspiracy junkies."[1]

Icke was a BBC television sports presenter and spokesman for the Green Party, when in 1990 a psychic told him that he was a healer who had been placed on Earth for a purpose, and that the spirit world was going to pass messages to him. In March 1991 he held a press conference to announce that he was a "Son of the Godhead" – a phrase he said later the media had misunderstood – and the following month told the BBC's Terry Wogan show that the world would soon be devastated by tidal waves and earthquakes. He said the show changed his life, turning him from a respected household name into someone who was laughed at whenever he appeared in public.[2]

Well I'm not exactly a writer but I feel an obligation to the Rev to post SOMETHING. I can't just fake it and say I did when I really didn't. I'm trying to think of something interesting and deep to say but I can't really think of much except for the fact that I live in Canada and that seems to fascinate most Americans. It's hard to imagine the actor didn't know that telling The Guardian's Xan Brooks his throat cancer was caused by HPV wouldn't become the biggest part of that interview. Once you drop the term cunnilingus, there's no going back. In the interview, Brooks asked Douglas about his disease and whether the actor attributed it to his drinking and smoking. Douglas corrected him: "No. Because, without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus."

Fired Oregon officer: Alcoholism was a disability

From Yahoo! News: PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A police officer fired for driving drunk in an unmarked police car while off-duty has filed a $6 million lawsuit against the city of Gresham, the police chief and others, alleging his rights were violated under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In Indianapolis, a cop was driving drunk and ran over some people on motorcycles. He tested positive for DUI (triple the limit), 2 or 3 hours after the crash. It was in the morning, on a weekday. He killed one of them and permanently, seriously disabled 2 others. The police's union is defending him. He's claiming that work related stress led to his alcoholism. He has a record of discipline problems, and has crashed his police car at least 2 other times, fortunately no injuries were involved.

I could go on and on, but you know the story and you get the gist of it. I can't for the life of me understand anyone who defends him, but especially when the defense seems to be, "well he's a cop, and that means it's ok". He'll get off with little or nothing happening to him. Not only does he have the gall to say he didn't really do anything wrong, but there are plenty of people who agree with him.

These people are the enemy. They essentially say that the police should be able to do whatever they want, because they're the police. This is the attitude of the places that America fights wars against. These cops would say that they're good Americans, even that they're better Americans than you or me. But the attitudes/beliefs are very different than what America is really all about. All the while everybody knows that what is on paper and how things are practiced in real life are often very different.

I keep a personal record of headline stories of the police involved in serious misbehavior. It's just my small way of fighting back. We have to do our best to keep them honest. I don't even know the number of how many innocent people have been murdered by the police since I started keeping track. If you've read this far, read a little more.

The story that really got it started for me was when a cop killed a guy in Iowa City, approx '95 or '96. The guy was talking on his cell phone, in his own place of business. The cop thought the cell phone was a gun. The guy was completely minding his own business, not a trouble maker or someone with an axe to grind, like me. The cop killed him, easily. This cop at least felt bad about it. He resigned.

It's nearly impossible to find anything out about him now. The police's union DID NOT want him to resign. They wanted him to fight it and have life go on as usual. Their position is pretty clear. In all of the articles about it afterward, the people who were his supporters all said similar things about him. That he was a good guy and felt bad about it. That he was a "good looking kid". I shit you not. It's easy (or used to be) to find these stories in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

Many of the stories, if not most, use that same line, that cop was "a good looking kid". I guess if he hadn't been good looking they'd of actually charged him with murder or negligent homicide or something. But due to his relative attractiveness, he clearly needs to be free.

saw a Random Quote on WI by John Perry Barlow. most famously, he's a lyricist for the Dead. I loved the quote: "the internet treats censorship as a malfunction and routes around it".

John Perry partners with Bob Weir for the songs. I can't remember who wrote the words for Jerry's music. but anyway, the Barlow/Weir song, "Estimated Prophet" is sooo cool. I read somewhere it's in 11/4 time. I can't count stuff that complicated, but it is a stone groove, silk-lined, masterpiece.

No word yet on missing wallaroo

KINGSTON – As of Friday afternoon, Willow, the missing wallaroo, had not been found.

Willow is a 14-month-old baby wallaroo – essentially a miniature kangaroo – who disappeared from her home in rural Kingston about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The 2-foot-tall gray marsupial weighs between 15 and 20 pounds and is the pet of the Cleveland family.

She apparently does paperwork, too.
